Summary

She came in search of the family she’d always wanted—and found the kind of love she’d never dared to imagine。

When Katelyn Loveland’s car veered off a winding Appalachian Mountain road, she thought she was done for。 That is until Cooper Robinson, local sheriff’s deputy, came to her rescue。 And though Katie narrowly escaped her brush with death, she still fell。 Hard。

She wasn’t the only one。 But soon Cooper learns that the woman he’s more attracted to than any he’s ever met is his brother’s new girlfriend—and therefore unquestionably off limits。 Yet, despite his best efforts, Cooper and Katie can’t seem to avoid running into each other。 Or ignore the undeniable chemistry between them。

As they grow closer, Katie shares the secrets of her past and the real reason she moved to their small North Carolina town。 She also wins over Cooper’s welcoming and bighearted family。 But they don’t know that her feelings for Cooper keep growing—all while she’s dating his brother。 Soon the stakes of their emotional connection become higher than either of them could have imagined。 Katie stands to lose the first family she’s ever had, and a scandal could doom Cooper’s campaign for sheriff’s office。 Suddenly they find themselves on the edge of another precipice—and they’re forced to make a decision that could change their lives forever。

I'm always excited to visit new places through books and I can't wait to read more。 I also enjoyed how the author was still able to weave her faith into the story in a nonthreatening way。“Sometimes family isn’t the situation you’re born into but the people who’ve chosen to love you along the way。”Highly recommend if you enjoy Christian contemporary romance with small town charm and lots of heart。My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book。 All opinions expressed here are entirely my own。 No positive review was expected and no compensation received。 。。。more

This was a great book which is obvious to me since I stayed up till after 3 o’clock in the morning to finish it。 They were very difficult issues in the book, one of which would usually be a dealbreaker for me。 However, it was heartwarming and beautiful in spite of the heartbreak。I love Katie and Cooper。 I very much hope that we will continue to hear updates on them and I definitely hope that there will be additional stories to come for Gavin and for Avery。A beautiful story of love, brokenness, h This was a great book which is obvious to me since I stayed up till after 3 o’clock in the morning to finish it。 They were very difficult issues in the book, one of which would usually be a dealbreaker for me。 However, it was heartwarming and beautiful in spite of the heartbreak。I love Katie and Cooper。 I very much hope that we will continue to hear updates on them and I definitely hope that there will be additional stories to come for Gavin and for Avery。A beautiful story of love, brokenness, heartbreak, hope, forgiveness and faith。I received a copy of this book from NetGalley Shelf and this is my honest review and opinion。 I also listen to the audible version of the book which was indeed a winner。 。。。more

So glad to see this is a first of a series。 A new-to-me author that I thoroughly enjoyed reading。 Many tears were shed。 A sweet love story with so much back story angst。 I am eager to read the next one。 I can certainly see this as a Hallmark movie。 Delightful! Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley。

Sweet story about obstacles to true love。 Cooper and Katie were very mature as they navigated around the fact that she was dating his brother。

A clean, modern romance。 Honestly I could see this as a movie for the holidays!

I've read - and loved - books by Denise Hunter for years。 She's so great at writing a beautiful romance with heartfelt moments and characters to root for。Riverbend Gap begins with small town deputy sheriff, Cooper, coming to Katelyn's rescue。 In order to avoid hitting a deer, she swerves and finds her life hanging in the balance。 There's instant chemistry and a heap of unavoidable roadblocks, the biggest of which is Katelyn's new boyfriend, who happens to be Cooper's brother。I have a hard time r I've read - and loved - books by Denise Hunter for years。 She's so great at writing a beautiful romance with heartfelt moments and characters to root for。Riverbend Gap begins with small town deputy sheriff, Cooper, coming to Katelyn's rescue。 In order to avoid hitting a deer, she swerves and finds her life hanging in the balance。 There's instant chemistry and a heap of unavoidable roadblocks, the biggest of which is Katelyn's new boyfriend, who happens to be Cooper's brother。I have a hard time reading books that hint at or show emotional and/or physical cheating, so this was a harder one for me to get through than others I've loved in the past。 While I think it was handled tastefully and it was realistically represented, it's a plot device I don't care for。 However, Denise is an auto-buy author for me and I am happy to know this is the first in another series。 Thanks to @tnzfiction and @tlcbooktours for my #gifted copy。 All thoughts in this review are my own。 。。。more

Gaaa。 Wish I wouldn't read these so fast。 Easy to get draw in and absorbed among a new wonderful set of characters。 Eager for Avery's story to come next。 Thanks Denise for the wonderful character development and emotions around foster care, blended families, addiction diseases, and extreme loss/grief。 It made for authentic storylines and relationship building。 Gaaa。 Wish I wouldn't read these so fast。 Easy to get draw in and absorbed among a new wonderful set of characters。 Eager for Avery's story to come next。 Thanks Denise for the wonderful character development and emotions around foster care, blended families, addiction diseases, and extreme loss/grief。 It made for authentic storylines and relationship building。 。。。more

Excellent book!! Can’t wait for the rest in the series!!!Note on the audio。 Overall, the narrator does well。 But she pronounces VAGUELY in such an odd way that it was totally distracting。 Instead of pronouncing the A like DAY, she pronounced it as RAG。

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a nice easy romantic read! The characters are relatable, the setting of Riverbend Gap is ready and waiting for you to explore and the storyline held my interest! I particularly like the hiking and outdoors feel that is true to ranch life!Congratulations to Thomas Nelson and Denise Hunter! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 *Spoiler Alert*Let me start first by saying I love Denise Hunter。 I love her books, and you should read them。 But I was disappointed in this one because my expectations were so high。 I was excited about the premise, and it started out so well。 But it began to lose me pretty early in。 We'll start first with the things I liked:Pros: I loved the Robinson family right away。 The blended family dynamic was real and touching, and there were lots of interesting characters presented that have me excited *Spoiler Alert*Let me start first by saying I love Denise Hunter。 I love her books, and you should read them。 But I was disappointed in this one because my expectations were so high。 I was excited about the premise, and it started out so well。 But it began to lose me pretty early in。 We'll start first with the things I liked:Pros: I loved the Robinson family right away。 The blended family dynamic was real and touching, and there were lots of interesting characters presented that have me excited for the follow-up books in this series。 I think Hunter shines the most when she goes for the really quirky or the really difficult。 This book was the quirky (love triangle with two brothers), and that was why I was so excited。 I am also looking forward to Avery's story of living with the knowledge of a 50% likelihood of having Huntington's。 And Gavin's story。。。 Wow, I'm not sure Hunter has ever taken on a main character who has lost a child。 That is a huge undertaking, but one she is fully capable of pulling off。 I look forward to the depth of his book。 I also liked the first scene。 It has that "Denise Hunter magic" (I coined this term, but you are welcome to use it。 😉)。 She has a way with words and unusual scenes。 Her books always have a page-turning quality that stands on its on, and this one is no different。Cons: First, Cooper was just not the caliber of Hunter heroes that I have come to expect。 He seems to exhibit very little true guilt over the situation。 He seemed to believe himself a victim of circumstances who had a true grievance。 I think if he had been a hero more along the lines of what I was expecting, it would have created some better awkward tension with his brother (i。e。: he could feel tortured about his attraction, whereas instead he always seemed angry at his brother)。 Okay。。。 So I'll go for the main problem now: the love triangle。 It plagued the book right away and didn't ever get fixed。 Love triangles can be annoying, but this one had all of the makings of a really interesting, page-turning one。 But to be a good love triangle storyline, you have to believe in the MFC's relationship with both men (even if you ultimately know she has a stronger connection with one)。 I wasn't sold on the connection between Katie and Cooper。 We kept being told that they had a connection, a sure sign that the chemistry just isn't working。 It didn't leap off the page like it was supposed to。 The scenes between them fell flat, and I found myself wanting to skim them, because without the electricity, they were just boring。 In addition, the relationship with Gavin and Katie was never firmly established in readers' minds either。 To make it really awkward and delicious, we needed to believe that there was something there for Cooper to actually take away from Gavin。 Instead, Gavin and Katie were presented as platonic, almost middle-school-esque boyfriend/girlfriend who happen to go out occasionally。 I could never figure out why the relationship wasn't presented to readers as a real, months-long relationship。 Like, Gavin was Katie's boyfriend。 But he wasn't really。。。not in readers minds。 So the tension there, with the brothers having a real problem on their hands, was just not delivered。 I'm not sure why this point was missed by the publishing team。 It seems obvious to me。 It wouldn't have hurt the romance between Katie and Cooper; if done correctly, it would have helped highlight the true connection they were supposed to have, as opposed to what you have when you're just with a good person who happens to be the wrong person。 Instead, we were never allowed to believe in her relationship with Gavin as really existing。 Our insights into her mind during those times, except for a couple of sentences, were all her thinking about Cooper, and how she would rather be with him。Which leads me to the second point。。。 Given the nature of her relationship with Gavin, the fact that Katie was with him right up to the end was just really exasperating。 I like for characters to have flaws, but this one just didn't make any sense to me like it would have if she and Gavin had been presented as having a legitimate relationship。 Given the way it was actually presented, I think she would have dropped Gavin like a hot potato。 😂 I know the reason given was that, due to her childhood, she really wanted to be with Gavin's family。 In general, I could understand that, but that just wasn't sold here either。 We have had storylines with main characters who were in foster care before, and I'm glad Hunter has characters with that background and obviously has a heart for the too-many kids who are put in this position by life's circumstances。 But I always brace myself when I see that storyline in her books because the stories always feel unnecessarily cumbersome and tedious。 I've never been able to put my finger on why, but these are always my least favorite Hunter storylines。 Maybe it's because it tends to define the characters rather than just being a part of who they are? Anyway, whatever the reason, when I saw that a storyline was going to be Katie tracking down her birth mother, I dreaded it。 In this instance, it side-tracked the storyline。 Before we could even fully develop the huge crisis Katie goes through at the beginning, we moved on to that, and it just really detracted from the pacing。Speaking of storylines that were unnecessary。。。 When the past date comes out of nowhere claiming that Cooper was her baby's father, I heaved a huge sigh。 I don't like storylines like that in general。。。 But that aside, it was hugely detracting from the main storyline, a throwaway rabbit trail unworthy of the book。 This, and the storyline about Katie's mother felt like filler。 If that time had been spent more productively on my suggestions above, this would have easily been one of my favorites。 I'm not a professional editor, and I know that。 Which leads me to my final point。 I think the six-month publishing schedule for authors is insane。 It is absolutely plaguing every book I read these days。 Simple fixes that would make a book tight are just overlooked to get it out there on the shelves。 I can't imagine what it must be like to pull off that type of timeline。 I know I spent a lot of time on the problems, but it was in order to demonstrate that, for so many reasons, this book just wasn't working。 And Hunter is too good of a writer and her publishing team is too big for there to be any reason for that other than deadline issues。 One way I know this was one of the problems with the book is that line edits were just not great。 There were a few mistakes, and many places where wording could have been much clearer。 I had a hard time keeping the brothers' names straight (for some reason, Gavin and Cooper read as the same name to me), and the editors clearly had the same problem because I caught one place where the intended name was one and the other was inserted。 Anyway, that's not to say it was poorly packaged。。。 I can deal with a few mistakes。 It just became an obvious indicator that this one was rushed, and coupling some pretty obvious plot mistakes with that, I think the problem was the short deadline here。 I hope that changes, because I love Denise Hunter。 I love having a new book of hers in my mailbox every six months。 But I would prefer quality over quantity, and I hope publishers across the board eventually agree。 Anyway, I highly recommend you check out her previous books, as well as this book because I think it's gearing up to be a really great series。 Long may Denise Hunter delight us with her fabulous romances! 。。。more

I love the characters in Riverbend Gap。 They have distinct personalities and believable conversations。 The main character, Katelyn Loveland, is the perfect choice for this story。 She is vulnerable, but resilient。 As with any great character, Katelyn isn't perfect and whether her reactions and responses were good or bad, I think everyone can relate to her struggle with uncertainties。 I love the mountains and imagined Riverbend Gap to be beautifully surrounded by them。 If you love Hallmark movies, I love the characters in Riverbend Gap。 They have distinct personalities and believable conversations。 The main character, Katelyn Loveland, is the perfect choice for this story。 She is vulnerable, but resilient。 As with any great character, Katelyn isn't perfect and whether her reactions and responses were good or bad, I think everyone can relate to her struggle with uncertainties。 I love the mountains and imagined Riverbend Gap to be beautifully surrounded by them。 If you love Hallmark movies, then you'll love this cozy town with a close community atmosphere。 Hunter's writing style is perfect for "I want to sip hot tea (or coffee), cuddle under a cozy blanket and read a great book。" kind of day。 。。。more

Good storyline。 The Robinson family is very likable。 I was torn between a 4 and 5 star railing。 I settled on a 4。5 rating。 For me, the 1/2 star hold back was the epilogue。 It wasn’t the WOW epilogue that I was looking for。 Looking forward to the next book in the series。
